Planning a Networking Trip

Hello readers!

I wanted to tell you all about an interesting event I had the opportunity to plan. The event I have in mind actually took place about 3 months ago, but who cares right?

As you know, I’m heavily involved with the public relations club at my college – SHOUT OUT to St.Clair College #prclubscc ha!- To take advantage of the five-week-long strike that occurred at all of the colleges across the province of Ontario I planned a networking trip for everyone in the club.

The trip itself wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be to plan and execute. First, my committee and I held a fundraiser at Zapzone, where we invited the general public out to play unlimited laser-tag for three hours. The event was a success and we were able to raise close to $300 after paying Zapzone their rental fee.

Next, my committee and I had to brainstorm various PR (public relations) firms in London. Since none of us are actually from London, we turned to our best friend, Google, for help. We came up with a list of about eight firms, voted on five that seemed to match some of our career interests and then reached out to the top four firms.

We got one flat out no, one ‘we’ll get back to you’ and two enthusiastic yeses. Obviously, we went with the two firms that were enthusiastic about hosting us. Thank you Sagecomm and Northern Commerce for being so willing to have us students visit!

The final step was creating an itinerary which meant figuring out how we Windsorites would be getting to London, which firm we would visit first and lunchtime accommodations. This was probably the easiest part to plan. We deiced to have a convoy of four cars, each with four or so passengers, which would leave at 8:15 a.m. Then we’d visit Northern Commerce, followed by a lunch break at Jack Astors and then we’d be off to Sagecomm before hitting the road and arriving back in Windsor at 6 p.m.

The entire day went off without a hitch and the firms we went to were amazing. I honestly could not have been happier with the entire experience. If you would like to read more about our time at the individual firms stay tuned for my next post!

Thanks for reading. ❤
